Telekom Digital Short Form Series Pitch

5 Pre-selected digital short form series pitches will be presented to Telekom decision makers. 

The winner of the pitch contest will receive €20,000 in development funding for their project. Upon delivery of the developed project, the winner will then be eligible to receive up to €130,000 in production funding – all thanks to Deutsche Telekom!

As part of Telekom’s TV content team, Sven Philipp is always looking for new and exciting projects to develop and produce or must-see shows to acquire. He has been key in driving Telekom’s on- demand content strategy and bringing high-end drama series like THE HANDMAID’S TALE to Entertain TV, Telekom’s TV platform. Before joining Telekom, Sven served as Director of Content Partnerships for MusicNet in the US and held editorial positions for Billboard magazine and Chesky Records in New York. He studied Film & Media at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris and Sussex University in the UK.

Elke Sander

Elke Sander founded mainFREIRAUM in 2005.

The marketing & communication agency is specialised on the entertainment industry and consults studios and further companies of or entering the entertainment market.

mainFREIRAUM develops communication strategies and campaigns by combining classical channels with digital platforms, formats and contents. The agency accompanies their clients via the whole life circle of their products starting in production stage to concepts for catalogue marketing.

As trained business coach with focus on change management Elke also supports clients in their business innovation and ideation processes. She studied Film, Theatre & Media at the University of Erlangen and Arts & Design at the Central Saint Martins College London.

Meredith Burkholder

Meredith Burkholder is the founder and CEO of Webfest Berlin.

Webfest Berlin, founded in 2015, is the first international festival in Germany dedicated to presenting, recognizing, and advancing digital short form series from around the world. Since 2015 she has offered her digital short form series expertise regularly as juror, panelist, speaker, and moderator at relevant industry events, including Rio Web Fest, Seoul Web Fest, Roma Web Fest, Seriencamp Festival, Sicily Webfest, Wendie Webfest Hamburg, Die Seriale, Cinema Jove, TV Series Festival, Digital Production Challenge, Bilbao Web Fest, Storytelling for Startups, LA Web Fest, and Filmkunstfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Before founding Webfest Berlin, Meredith worked for 10 years as a freelance producer for photography and television based in New York City. In 2011, she co-founded the marketing and production company, Et Tu Tableau, GbR, in Berlin, Germany. And in 2018, she founded her solo venture, Ensoki Productions, GmbH. She studied Art History at Boston University.

Joël Bassaget

Originally from France, Joel Bassaget currently lives in Berlin. He has been writing and producing TV cartoons since 1987. In 1998, he created an animated series of 20 second episodes for friends and family to download. The following year, he discovered Icebox.com which inspired him to create a website to watch online animated shows and pilots for future series. He created his own platform, in 2001, with the help of some of his animation friends. The site only lasted about a year, but the experience strengthened his enthusiasm for short form. In the 2000’s he dove in to the ‘seriesmania’ of the time. He created the blog “720 lignes” on LeMonde.fr and then the blog “Des Séries et des Hommes” for Liberation.fr. He co-wrote two books on TV series (“Seriescopie” and “Créatures, les monstres de la television”) and participated in various podcasts on the topic. In 2014, he left “Des Séries et des hommes” to his colleague Benjamin Campion and created “Web Séries Mag”, a blog solely dedicated to web series and also hosted on Liberation.fr. In 2015, he created the Web Series World Cup and completed the first statistical study about the web series phenomenon, “Web Series Anatomy” which was presented in various masterclasses around the World. In 2016, he wrote “Web Series: la nouvelle vague”, a guide to the best web series by genre, and began presenting his “Best of Short Form” session at MIPTV and MIPCOM. At the same time, he began teaching narrative short form and giving lectures for cinema and TV schools around the world. He regularly publishes reviews and analysis and consults for production companies willing to ‘go web’. He has been a member of the Webfest Berlin board of advisors since 2016.

Anne Santa Maria

Pioneering the online scripted short form genre in France, Anne is a pacesetter in digital series. She produced the first Studio 4 & Arte France online series of which the multi award winning web series “Osmosis” is now being adapted for Netflix. She has operated within major media players such as TF1, FremantleMedia, Gaumont, Newen Group, consolidating her multicultural and multidisciplinary in-depth experience in linear TV and streaming platforms across various models of scripted content: commissioning, development, production, sales, license and format deals. She now consults globally in Original Content Strategy.

She is a regular contributor as a juror, conference speaker and trainer worldwide to digital content events (WebFest Berlin advisory board, MIPTV, CanneSeries, Conecta Fiction, Quebec Cinema, Are You Series, Luchon, Sicily Web Fest, Die Seriale, Seoul Web Fest, etc.).

As a teenager Margot fell in love with experimental cinema, in particular Chris Marker's work, and it became a true calling that she pursued by taking on editing and post-production studies. Since then, she has worked as an editor for more than eight years in entertainment television, magazines and documentaries. Having been an avid gamer all her life, she jumped at the chance to join Riot Games as a video producer when the Berlin office opened in 2015. Since then, she has had the pleasure of working on the cutting edge of culture and entertainment by developing and directing branded content for League of Legends esports.

Floris Asche

Floris studied media sociology and screenwriting and he worked as a writer, director and producer for fiction and non-fiction projects, before he joined the UFA production company. Since 2018 he is a senior producer and headwriter and responsible for the development at UFA X. Amongst other things Floris works on the Grimme-Preis nominated ARTE web series "Art of Gaming", a web magazine about gaming culture and the relevance of games as an artform.

A communications professional in brand building and content creation, Rabi’ has developed and implemented highly recognized social influence and behavioral design programs globally. 

Rabi’ currently leads Spring Communications, a content creation firm that fuses communications and public policy to help design and promote a more systemic and sustainable positive social change.   

Passionate about pursuing a career in strategic communications, Rabi’ joined Saatchi and Saatchi in 1992 and moved to M&C Saatchi in 2010. He has worked on institutional as well as commercial blue chip clients promoting global brands across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. 

Rabi’ holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Celebrate the first day of Webfest Berlin 2018 at our Friday Night Berlinorama Party! Network, get inspired, and enjoy a cocktail with friends, both old and new!

During Berlinorama, we will host the WORLD PREMIERE of “Klicknapped”! This new Psycho Dramedy is produced by the young production company, CURLYPICTURES, on behalf of Radio Bremen, WDR and MDR SPUTNIK for funk.

The evening will also feature screenings of this year’s Berlin Selections, as well as music, dancing, and more!

Tobias Schiwek

Tobias started his career in 1996 in the "multimedia department" of BMZ!FCA in Dusseldorf – today known as Saatchi & Saatchi. He's spent his day and night time at agencies like Jung von Matt, Pixelpark, Springer & Jacoby, Leagas Delaney and Ogilvy.

From 2010 to 2012 he was a freelance social media consultant and has conducted many social media projects for clients like Wacom, Hyundai, EIZO and Medion – for the latest he developed the first online 24 hours comedy show with Atze Schröder which was his first branded entertainment format.

In 2012 Tobias joined TBWA\ as "translator" between the traditional and digital communication world. In this role he's been the driver of the agencies digital transformation. In close co-operation with Unitymedia Tobias has built a content marketing team that develops strategies and creative ideas and formats, produces, analyses and optimizes the performance of assets. With "Let's talk digital" TBWA\ and Unitymedia have developed a cultural relevant format which was the cornerstone for Unitymedias content strategy in the future.

Taç Romey

Taç Romey is a writer, producer, and CEO of his company Phantomfilm GmbH. He is best known for his I-emmy nominated TV Series ALLE LIEBEN JIMMY, for which he received numerous awards. The same goes for his film KEBAB MIT ALLES and currently his show: DER LACK IST AB, which went from being Germanys most successful webseries to being picked up as an Amazon Original and distributed in over 200 countries. Since October 2016 he is Professor for Serial Storytelling at HFF Munich (University for Television and Film).

Adrián Garelik is a scriptwriter and film/TV producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Involved in the development of streaming and gaming apps for more than 20 years, he found in Bitcoin and blockchain the potential for disrupting the entertainment industry. In 2014 Adrián was part of the founding team of RSK Labs - the company that brought smart contract capabilities to Bitcoin - a project that he left in 2016 to focus on the development of Flixxo, a peer to peer video platform that runs on top of its own cryptocurrency: Flixx.

 

George Reese

George Reese is a writer, director, and producer of short films, feature films, and web series.

His career began in television in the 1990's with PA work on shows such as The People's Court, USA Network's Up All Night, and ESPN's Up Close. His hobby in online game programming, however, sidetracked him into the technology world during the Internet boom.

Throughout the rest of the 90's and the 2000's, George became a technology thought-leader in emerging technologies such as Java, MySQL, and cloud computing. He is the author of many technology books and founded three technology companies.

After successfully selling his cloud computing startup to Dell in 2013, George returned to television and film by writing and directing short films. Through his latest startup, Seeka TV, he entered the world of the web series where he has produced over a dozen digital series and serves as the Founder and Co-Director of the Minnesota WebFest.

 

Claire Leproust

Claire Leproust is Fablabchannel’s founder, a digital content production agency based in Paris that gathers youth, freedom and creativity, social issues and international network of talents.

She is the author of the several times awarded media concept « Les Haut-Parleurs »( loud speakers) that gives a voice to young French speaking young video reporters around the world in partnership with Tv5Monde, Tv and digital medias, NGOs, Public and artistic institutions and Cnc.

On the non drama side, Fablabchannel has produced several web series mainly targetted to preteens and teenagers like Les Tactiques d’Emma and Before gathering tens of millions viewers on youtube .

Claire has studied business law and political science in Paris and benefit from a 30 years carrier in the audiovisual sector .

Paul Edwards

Paul has worked in the Media Industry for over 20 years working for such organisations as Channel 5, Discovery Networks International and most recently he joined Pluto TV as their Director of Content. Partnerships.

He was part of the launch team who brought Channel 5 to UK screens working across their Programming and Acquisitions department, as they successfully developed a highly impressive line-up of Feature Films and TV Series including CSI.

After a short stint at Hallmark Entertainment as their Head Of Programme Planning, Paul worked for 11 years for Discovery Networks International working across a number of roles within their Programming , Commissioning and Acquisitions department. During this time he successfully launched the a number of brands including TLC, ID and Quest.

Now working out of Berlin, working for Pluto TV as they gear up for a launch of their service in both the UK and Germany.
