This year, web series and digital content expert, Joël Bassaget will be joined by Anne Santa Maria, in highlighting six programs submitted to Webfest Berlin. During this special session they will explain why they think these picks have a great potential for production or distribution.
Joël Bassaget lives in Berlin and has been writing scripts for television since 1990. Passionate about new formats and independent production, he created the blog "Web Series Mag" on the French newspaper Liberation website to review the web fictions of the whole world. Also a consultant, he observes, analyzes, criticizes, studies and catalogs this particular format, offering his expertise to online broadcasters and content producers. He regularly gives lectures on web series. In 2015, he founded the Web Series World Cup and released the first statistic study (“Web Series Anatomy”), in 2016 he published “Le guide des Webséries – la nouvelle vague” and in 2017 was elected first president of the French web creators’ association (WAF).
Anne Santa Maria
After working experiences abroad in media relations and production: HBO (NYC), Addis & Wechlser (L.A.), AFTRS (Sydney), Anne Santa Maria began her career as Commissioning Editor within TF1 French Drama division and as Producer and Editorial Executive of TF1 Productions, she joined Fremantlemedia in 2006 as Head of Drama, France. In 2011 she created her own label: Taronja Prod (Newen Group) and founded the young talents incubator: Telfrance Network. She produced prime time fiction and digital series such as “Osmosis”, a multi award winning web series with 13 prizes and 42 nominations worldwide, which she pushed to its longer form adaptation for Netflix as the second French Local original production. She is now monitoring and piloting creators and production companies’ international online content development, production, and sales strategies for TV Broadcasters and OTT platforms. Anne was the Conference Speaker of the digital short form series pitch (Kids and Drama) for MIPTV 2017.
